Interim Cryogenic Propulsion Stage (ICPS)

Giving Orion the big push needed to fly beyond the Moon.

  • ICPS is a modified Delta IV Cryogenic Second Stage for NASA's Artemis program.

  • For the Artemis I mission, the stage will feed liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen to the Aerojet Rocketdyne RL10B-2 main engine to produce 24,750 pounds (110.1 kilo-Newtons) of highly efficient thrust.

  • ULA is building three ICPS stages for each of the first three Artemis missions to the Moon through a collaborative partnership with Boeing.

  • NASA's SLS with ICPS is the most powerful rocket ever developed, producing 8.8 million pounds of thrust during liftoff to loft a vehicle weighing nearly six million pounds.
